How do you carry?
« on: December 27, 2007, 07:39:23 AM »
In my quest for a holster, I find that very few stores that sell handguns have little or nothing to choose from. I know that the
stores that I have been in, sell quite a number of handguns. Is it not very popular to use a holster? The stores are willing to order a
holster for me, but tell me that it is 30 - 60 days out. I could understand this if I was trying to get a holster for an odd model or something off the wall. I would like to put my hands on a holster and check it out before I buy. Special orders / no returns.
This got me to thinking, maybe it is more popular to just stick your weapon in a pocket or shove in in your waistband. I don't want to carry my large frame auto in this way.
Will someone please give me your comments and a good source to pick up a holster? I sure would appreciate any input........

How I carry depends on a lot of variables such as the clothes I'm wearing which in turn is based on the weather and where I'm going and on what gun I'm gonna carry that time out.

I might carry a small semiauto in a pants pocket in a pocket holster or I might carry either a snub nose revolver or small semi in a vest or jacket pocket if such is appropriate wear for the situation. That really is kinda my favorite carry method these days. My reasoning is that was I walk from truck to store or vice versa I can have the gun IN MY HAND. There is no faster gun presentation than to already have it in your hand when the situation dictates it be used. I carry guns that can be fired from the pocket if need be or can be pulled from it for more aimed fire if that is more appropriate. But with my hand on it in the pocket should an immediate threat be presented at face to face distances all I need do is point and pull the trigger and they will not even know I had a gun until the bullet is on its way.

I do have various types of belt holsters as well both inside the waistband and outside as well as shoulder holsters and any might be used depending on circumstances. I even have a fanny pack that can be worn to the front with a pocket for a gun that can be deployed fairly quickly and at times that seems most appropriate.

I think your stores just don't want to place special orders and are waiting until they will be getting a regular shipment to reduce their shipping charges on the holster which is understandable but if you're willing to pay the shipping for a special order they should be willing to place it.

But really these days just order it yourself it's as close as your computer or telephone away from you and you can have it as quickly as you are willing to pay the shipping charges to include overnight if you wish.

Check out www.desantisholster.com.  I've ordered a couple from them and have been very happy with the quality and durability.  You can search by gun model and they will show you all of the holster options that they have that are specifically sized for that gun.

I pretty much always carry IWB with a Pro Stealth (desantis) holster...about the 5:00 position strong arm.  I mostly wear polo shirts though which make it easy to conceal.  I have a smaller gun that I carry if I'm in a t-shirt.

I've tried a basket full of different holsters, and I'm sold on High Noon. My preference is for the IWB tuckable. But I don't tuck very often. This being my favorite,
