Analog vs. Digital Earplugs -- Much Difference???
« on: January 13, 2008, 04:43:49 AM »
Hope that I am posting this inquiry in the correct section of the Forum.

I have used "clam-shell" type hearing protection both at the range and in the field for many years.  At 56 years of age I need "hearing boost and protection" that will really do the job adequately.  I have lots of ringing in both of my ears as well as some overall hearing loss.  I would like to consider getting away from the large over the ear muff type aids and purchase the much smaller insert hearing protectors and hearing enhancement type of aid.

Please explain the difference between the analog and the digital technologies and what it means in the field.  Also, I wonder if any of the better units have "moldable" inserts to fit the units to one's ears rather than having to accept what the manufacturers produces for the masses.  I feel that when spending this type of cash it would be expected to come with personally molded hearing aids.

Thanks for your input.

I have both digital and analog.  There is a big difference between the too, namely the digital can be programmed based on your application.  I mainly use the digital because it does not amplify the sound of me walking which would drowned out other sounds.  The analog is great if your just sitting as all sounds are amplified equally.  There is also a big price difference between the digital and analog.

I like Sportear, which is available from Cabelas and Walmart.
