Siberian tiger....
« on: December 26, 2007, 03:39:30 AM »

Siberian tiger loose in San Francisco..kills one severely mauls two ! Zoo keeper claims he can't figure how the tiger got loose, but he says it wasn't because the door was left open..
I gues we shouldn't be surprised, since SF has a lot of "strange animals" running around loose at all hours of the day...

Well, I quit going to zoos long ago, as I started seeing the misery in most of the animals kept there. Bears and large cats seemed to exhibit it most, by pacing and or standing in a corner swaying back and forth.
When you keep such animals locked up, I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would be surprised that the cat went on a rampage when he did get out. Prisoners in penitentiaries have been trying a succeeding to get out for years. They have nothing else to do.
They are (animals) what they are. I say do away with zoo's and watch National Geographic if you want to look at a tiger.
You may all go to hell, I will go to Texas. Davy Crockett

I have to agree with you Dee,It's cruel to keep a wild animal cage up.
 Even tame ones. Marv.

I think I'am still banned from the SF zoo. Back in the late 60's was there with wife and kids, couple Hispanic fellows though it was neat throwing stuff at the tigers. I grabbed one and held him over the fence and asked if he thought he was brave enough to try that down on their level. Geeze did he scream a lot. Zoo people and the cops got ahold of me  and made me bring him back over the fence. Zoo people told me never to come back. SF police thought it was funny in a way as they escorted me out of the gate. Have never been to a zoo since.

That SF tiger had previously attacked one of the zoo staff.  It was given a pass on that count:  This will probably come back to haunt them when the civil suit comes up.

the only zoo should be to help animals that are hurt or need help in some way !
i hate to admit it but when a captive critter goes off it may be good in that all the tree huggers and Bambi lovers see the reality of wild animals !
we have a private zoo not a mile and a half thru. the woods from me and they have the big cats and bears and a bunch of other toothy stuff ! never mind that 12 ga. with the slugs by the door !
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Rather makes one wonder what was the "weapon of choice" when the police realized they would have to face an angry tiger ?
  I'm inclined to think it wasn't a 9mm..
    Suppose it was a 12 ga w/slugs..

we have a rehab center for big cats a bout 20 miles n.w. of ft worth, TX
they take in cats that people have had for pets and mistreared them or just couldn't
handle any more. I think the way it works when they go in this rehab. they can never
come out again.
OH by the way they found a tiger with a collar on it over around n. Dallas some where
that had been shot 5 times. Do people not understand that cute little kitten will
grow up to weight 400-500 lbs. some people are way dumber than they look. ::)

I have seen that as well. I feel that way also when I see Dogs in cages their owners call pens, the kind that are 8'x8' or so. I think they should be in a big pen. I have a larger area for mine plus I take him walking with me, one of the good things about living in the sticks I guess.
