Mauser's-Where's the best place to find them??
« on: December 27, 2007, 01:45:29 PM »
Hey guys,

A few months ago in one of the gun mags I get the guy "sporterized" several different surplus rifles.  He had an enfield and a mauser for sure.  He said he picked up this mauser already sporterized, cut off barell and peep sights, for like $90 and said there are huge amounts of these guns like this from some distributor.  I am interested in picking one up in either 7 x 57 or 6.5 swede.  I don't know if they are available at that price or I've heard of some for around $119.

I'd like to try my hand at doing some fun work on one and I figured I could play around a little at those prices.  If anyone has any info for me on where to buy these kind of rifles, prices or one's to look out for and make sure not to buy because of weakness's in the actions or any other reason I would really appreciate the input.

Thanks,

Bob

I bought an 8mm M48 Mauser at a Dunhams store in Rice Lake Wisconsin for 79 bucks on sale. It is in fair condition and a prime candidate for some amateur gunsmithing and other modifications. They seem to be the most common and inexpensive, the model 48's.  Dunhams often has sales on these and you can hand pick in person.
