Ruger Bisley Vaquero sight question

 I have a Bisley Vaquero in 44mag.   At about 15 yards, regardless of shooting 44mag 180, or 44 special, it shoots about a foot low with sights lined up, or I have to hold a large portion of the front sight above the rear sight to be on target.  I suspect I need to file off part of the front sights?   Has anyone else out there done this, or recommendations?   thanks....

I filed the front end off of a Walther P-1 when I could not get it to shoot where i wanted.  But the cool thing about the Walther was that the front sight was Dove tailed so if I screwed it up I could start over.
Before you take a file to your gun try this.
Shoot the revolver.  And have a friend reload the gun for you mixing up shells in your gun to include an empty or two tell him to be devious with the ammo you use.  Take deliberate shots at a target.  When you hit the empty shell if the gun dives your anticipating recoil and your pushing down on the gun as you pull the trigger. 
I had the same thing happen when I was learning with my M29 and I backed the elevation screw right out of the gun.
Practice dry firing.  It will help.

you can also raise your point of impact by slowing down your load or using a heavier bullets. If youve found a majic load and know your going to use it for good now. File the sight. Go VERY slow though as it doesnt take much and you cant put metal back once its gone.

I may try your recommendations about the more and different loads, empty cylinders, etc.

I forgot that I had tried one other load before.
Besides the 180 44 mags, and the 44 specials which hit about a foot low, I once also tried some pmc 240 44 mags, that I usually shoot out of my trapper.
The 240's actually tended to go the other direction and hit about a foot high.  (slower getting out of the barrel as the gun rises?) 
Recoil was a little stiffer.   Not near as accurate either.  (probably not something I would shoot much in the future)

Maybe I could find something halfway inbetween the 180's and the 240's   :^)

If I someday slowly file the front down, do you simply flatten the top, round it similar to it is now, etc ?
After done, did you touchup blue?

I reload a 180 grain Hot special in the Mag case using Bluedot and it leaves the barrel at about 1,000 FPS and is a sweet heart to shoot.  I built the round for bowling pins and it works great.  The regular 180 grain mag is a whole lot faster (+600 FPS).  I have loaded a few of the plated lead rounds for steel and they work great.  I do not have any problems with Point of impact from my 240 hunting loads with these out to 50 yards.
Give the empties a try and also relax your grip a little.  You do not have to strangle the revolver to make it fire.
Again dry fire the gun.  If you feel better using dummy or snap caps they are available at most sporting goods retailers or can be ordered.  I think you may be squeezing your whole hand as you are pulling the trigger.  While holding my Bisley as I type and putting a little pressure on my pinkie it pulls the muzzle down.  I have been trying it with both hands and single handed and get the same results.
