Marlin 30-30 Alamo ...
« on: December 29, 2007, 02:28:57 PM »
I have been looking to buy an older Marlin in 30-30 or .35 for a few months now. I passed on one at a gun show about 2 months ago that I shouldn't have even though I thought the price was just too high at the time. Anyway, tomorrow morning I am going to look at a "Alamo" 30-30 that I understand to be a limited edition model. Can anyone tell me anything about this model? I was told it was in excellent condition (90%+) but I have not yet seen the rifle. I am wanting one to take on a mule deer hunt planned for next year. I like the older models like the RC, etc with smooth stocks. I also would like to know if this model is worth more than the regular models.

I ran across this...

"a private label Marlin Model 30A Leveraction – 30-30, 20” Barrel, promotional Glenfield model with Birch stock and pressed checkering, Mfg. 1964-1983 made for the Oklahoma Tire & Supply Co. (OTASCO)

I believe they have a little gold Alamo coin inlaid in the stock.

I'd like to have one just because I like Glenfields and funky store brand Marlins.  I don't think I'd pay more than $250.00-$275.00 for it if it's in nice shape.

Marlins & Glenfields are getting expensive around here.

For what it's worth Glenfields seem more accurate than Marlins.  I've noticed it with mine, and others I've talked to say the same thing.  Some folks say they were rifled differently.

Thanks Swampman ...

I really appreciate the info. A friend who knows I am looking for older Marlins called me about this rifle. I couldn't find out anything through my searches.

Well, I checked out the "Alamo" 30-30 and it was in pretty good condition ... I'd say 90%. They would not come down on the price as it hasn't been in the store long enough they said. They were asking $349.00 and it was more than I was willing to pay. Thanks for the info Swampman. I'll keep looking at the upcoming gun shows the next two weekends.
