? for qiuck
« on: August 03, 2009, 09:27:39 AM »
i was looking at the traditions web site and they also have what they call a tip up rifle in 45-70 but they are saying it has a 1:8 twist rate. what do you think of that for a 45-70?

Looks just like the Outfitter to me except they show it with the t-hole stock, and 1:8" for it and the .444 seem awful fast to me, typical 45-70 twist is 1:18" or 1:20", 1:20" or 1:38" for the .444, I'm wondering if the twist is a typo for those two chamberings.

yeah i was wondering that too, i was always under the assumption that the bigger heavier bullets need a slower twist. it looks to me like they just cut and pasted the same thing for every rifle.

Methinks it is the other way around. Longer/heavier for cal bullets need more spin then shorties. ;)

OK, that particular twist rate appears to be off the chart for me as well
