Varget in a 45-70

Does anyone use Varget in their 45-70 Marlin with 300 gr bullets??

I've used as much as 63.0gr of it under a Sierra 300gr projectile.  It's a compressed load and shoot well from my 21" Thompson Center Contender....just glad it had a muzzle break!

I've used Varget with a variety of bullets from 300g cast to 405g jacketed and had good accuracy and consistency.  Left a lot of unburnt powder, though, so I went with other powders.

I think it's the sleeper powder for many cartridges.  You will find that some amazing groups are possible using Varget in your .45-70.

I load Sierra 300 gr. HP/FN w/Varget 59.9 gr. in my Marlin 95........Rick

That was the reason for the brake!  The frame handled the load just fine, and it is still a 'tight' lock-up.  I certainly don't shoot these excessively.....ouch comes to mind!

62 grains is listed as a max load under a 300 grain bullet.  The T/C shouldn't be shot with max loads.  It will ruin your frame.
