Single Six Grips
« on: December 29, 2007, 03:52:10 AM »
I am looking for a new set of grips for my Single Six.  It seemed to small for my hands with factory grips, so I changed to Houge rubber grips.  It tightened up my groups a bunch but I think they are butt ugly.  For a while I had a set of grips made for three screw Single Sixes that were wood, somewhat larger and longer than factory grips.  In fact they closed around the metal butt of the gun and gave an additional half inch.  Had they fit the gun they would have been ideal.

Any suggestions about where to find grips like I described?  Thanks.

to find a set that looks good, at least in my opinion would be about impossible. ever think about making a bisley out of it?

There is apparently more than one size grip frame used on the Single Six guns. The one on my .32 Magnum of Vaquero style is shorter by about 1/4" than the one on my Super Single Six Convertible that is at Mag-na-port for customization right now.

I really like the looks of the white grips on the .32 but I sure like the feel of the black rubber ones on the .22/.22Mag better. When Kenny eventually gets around to working on it and contacts me to discuss the project I'm gonna see if they can make a set of white grips for it that match the contours of the black grips on it to duplicate the feel but in white so I can get them scrimshawed. Sure would enhance the look but I don't wanna lose the feel they have now.

I have.  What is involved with that conversion?

You take a Bisley grip frame in the white and screw it onto a Single-Six frame.  File away everything that does not fit and refinish.  You will need the small Bisley hammer for the Single-Six.

Not too hard when I did mine, but I had John Linebaugh on my elbow keeping me on track.

I got a set of Pachmayr Presentation grips today, and they do the job quite well.  I like the way they fit my hand, and they aren't butt ugly like the Houge rubber grips.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

The .32 fixed sight Single Sixes, dubber "Vaqueritos" had XR3-RED short gripframes.  These were the only models that had such gripframe.   My Single Six in .22 wears a set of Lett checkered lamiantes.
