Glue for leather??
« on: March 07, 2009, 01:39:46 PM »
What kind of glue should I use on leather. I want to sew a knife sheath, I want to use glue to hold the welt in place while I sew it.

When I was making holsters and sheaths I used a contact cement.  I think it was Pliobond.  Coat both surfaces, let it dry a bit, carefully align the parts, and pound the heck out of them with a mallet or hammer to force them together.  Be sure to carefully align the parts since they will stick to each other as soon as you touch them to each other.

There might be something new out there, but I don't know since I haven't made leather items in about 20 years or so.

You can't go wrong with Barge's Cement. Widely used in the shoe repair and leather industry. You can get a small tube at Hobby Lobby and possibly Wal-Mart. Pliobond is good stuff too, just harder for me to find around here.
