Competitor Pistol...know anything?

Was wondering if anyone knew anything about the Competitor Pistol?  Sounds great, but I never heard of 'em before.

Hmmm this looks a lot like a design that used to be made but under a different name I think - found it - Magnum Research Lone Eagle. Don't know if this  is the same design by a different maker or??  The Lone Eagle was supposed to be very strong, had multiple barrel capability but didn't seem to be a hit in the market place.  Our gun shop had one for a long time and I nearly bought it but never quite came up with the cash.  The store closed and I don't know where it went.  Hopefully this new gun will get a review somewhere.


Looking at more of the website it appears they have been building these guns for a while maybe the silohette (however its spelled) shooters would know about this outfit.  Looks like it would compete with the Contender family.

I have owned atleast one Lone Eagle for more than 15 years. There 2 ways the Lone Eagle could be improved, the trigger and the second being the shell ejection.
The Competitor has improvements in both areas over the Lone Eagle.
I have a Competitor in 22-250ai and love it, the handgun is very accurate.
Here is a pic of my first Lone Eagle in 308 at the top and the Competitor on the bottom

  Dakota , those pistols come in a staggering number of calibers! SOME of them could hurt on BOTH ends, so think carefully about what you intend to do with it BEFORE spending your $$! I do NOT think you will be sorry about the accuracy you'll get,I just don't want to see your forehead get bruised!

A scope mark in your forehead is something to be proud of!!
just not for me, The Lone Eagle in 308 and my Ruger in 454 offer enough recoil that I need nothing more. I do know I shoot the 454 better with 45C loads so I need to keep practicing.

Did I mention, that I have a .475 Linebaugh wheelgun?   So you know where I am coming from...  I got this BRILLIANT idea to start varmint hunting next year.  You know, coyotes, fox and bobcat; the stuff that is worth some $$$.  Also decided to buy a mountain bike for scouting and hunting archery elk.  Combine the varmint hunting and the bike, and I am looking for something that will be advantageous to be carried on the bike.  Got bigger stuff in handguns for big game, but nothing that isn't going to rip big holes in a coyote.  Oh ya, you gotta' add to the mix that I would also like a caliber that offers CHEAP bullets, and not too much powder, for reloading.  Priced my hardcast for my .45 Colt and .475 Linebaugh and my heart skipped a beat!  Haven't bought any bullets in two years and was AMAZED at the price jump.

If this is the same firearm, they have been around for quite some time.  Bought one back in 1991, and proceeded to purchase barrels ranging from 22RF through 458WinMag.  Thinking back, I believe that the 30-378Weatherby was by far the most punishing cartridge I've ever been in contact with in a handgun!
Sold the complete package in 2000 for $1,350.00.....that was with 12 barrels and three grips!  Someone got a good deal!

I've heard the 30-378 can be pretty punishing in an uncompensated rifle let alone any sort of hand - cannon.

Sure would be nice if more Competitor shooters spoke up regarding accuracy, function, good calibers, other general information.

The Competitor is an updated version of the Lone Eagle with several improvements.
I had a Lone Eagle in 308 Win., and it shot good but the trigger lacked alot to be desired and there wasn't alot you could do to help it. The Competitor has a fully adjustable trigger.
With the lone Eagle, if you wanted to ad another barrel you had to buy a barreled action from Magnum Research and this required going through a FFL dealer. With the Competitor you can order just the barrel from the company and have them delivered to your house. If you change to a caliber with a different sized rim, you will have to order an ejector to go along with it.
The ejector in the Lone Eagle relied on a spring to extract and eject the cases, sometimes the cases would stick and in the Lone Eagle's owners manual they recommended oiling the cases if they wouldn't eject. I didn't like this idea and found that nickle plated cases worked great in this gun to give reliable ejection. The Competitor has a cammed extration system that starts the case out of the chamber just slightly, then the spring loaded ejector pops the case out. This is a great improvement over the Lone Eagle.
To cock the Lone Eagle you have to pull a cocking lever that is on the left side of the gun, the Competitor cocks upon opening the action.
The Competitor has different stock options, barrel length options, scope base options and a huge selection of chamberings.
As you can probably tell I like my Competitor alot better than I did the Lone Eagle that I had.
