I am new to hunting and I was wondering if it is safe to eat small game you kill with lead shot, or should you go with lead?

I would like to know if I could use lead being as how steel is tough on your barrel.

Yes it is safe to eat game shot with lead or steel shot.  Don't swallow the lead shot!     Also, be very careful of game shot with the steel.  Before cooking, feel around all entrance holes to make sure there's no shot in the meat.  I bit down on a piece of steel once in a duck breast and darned near broke my tooth - several people have!
