What shotgun loads to use for coyotes???????
« on: January 22, 2008, 09:20:20 AM »
Hey guys I am new to coyote hunting, I have a mossberg 535 that I just bought last fall. I have seen coyote hevi-shot from Dicks, Each box holds 10 shots and costs 30.00 dollars each box, That's nice but just to much money per shot, and you can buy the special coyote hevi-shot choke for another 30.00 dollars or so.

Here is my question what type of shells do you guys use, what type of chokes do you use, and how far can you shot with your shotgun? Keep in mind I have a extra-full turkey (Lead shot only)  choke that came with the gun, I have 3.50 inch turkey load for my gun and basic shells. My size shot is 6, will this work or not to kill coyotes(turkey load and basic shell)

everything you tell will be greatly appreciated

i usually use 3 inch "T" size shot and an IC choke for mu close range stuff. for under 40 yards you can get away with a x-full turkey choke and #4 magnum turkey loads. the trick is getting the coyotes close.

I use #4 buckshot, 28 inch full choke barrel out to 50 yards.

Well, the only shotgun I use for anything is an 20 gauge 870 Express Magnum. My favorite predator load is the Federal 3" magnum #2 shot. Not #2 buckshot, but #2 regular shot.

I use it mainly for foxes in the thick stuff, but It's dropped quite a few coyotes, and bobcats.

used the new black cloud this year in BB shot.  Didn't get a shot a yote, but it did great on fox and coon.  Farthest shot 62 paces.  Wish they would make a nightvision rangefinder.  those new pellets leave a nice wound channel and I had no runners.  This is out of my 535 turkey barrel with reddot.
