Centerfire on Huntsman frame?
« on: January 29, 2008, 04:20:33 PM »
Could someone tell me about Huntsman frames?  What barrels can be used with them?  shotgun, center fire?  Whats the difference between the Huntsman frame and a Pardner shotgun frame? Thanks...

a lot depends on the year of manufacture and the firing pin. Some early "Huntsman: frames had a large flat "firing Pin" which would only set off percussion caps. Older "Hunstman" frames were actually SB1 (shotgun) frames. I have had them both and still have a newer one with a shotgun barrel on it.

DO NOT USE ANY HIGHPOWER CENTERFIRE BARRELS ON IT!!!!

I hope this helps. Use only a Huntsman or shotgun barrel on your frame, IF it will accept the barrel and IF it fits properly....<><....:)

I have one of these '70's era .58 cal Huntsmans. The fat firing pin intended for percussion caps sets off musket (percussion) caps AND 209's every time. Also, these Huntsmans have a narrower under barrel lug and corresponding "mortise" in the frame at the hinge pin... shotgun and rifle lugs are wider and will not fit.

Older "Hunstman" frames were actually SB1 (shotgun) frames. I have had them both and still have a newer one with a shotgun barrel on it.

10-4 in EITHER case above... especially the 1st! :o

There are at least 3 types of Huntsman frames.

1. The older 70's era H&R Huntsmans that Hammerspur mentioned. These came in .45 cal, .58 cal, and 12 ga.

2. The SB1 NEF Huntsman frames that come on the late model NEF Huntsmans. These were either nickel plated or color case. Only shotgun and other Huntsman barrels can be added. Both the 12 ga TrackerII/.50 cal Combo and 12 ga bead barrel/.50 cal Combo also fall into this SB1 catagory. Same type of frame as the NEF Pardner and H&R Topper.

3. The SB2 NEF Huntsman frames that ONLY came on the .243 cal/.50 cal NEF Huntsman Combo. Only these can be fitted with other center fire RIFLE barrels. Same type of frame as NEF Handi and H&R Ultra.
