John C Tidball Heavy Artillery manual

A good friend of mine from my high school days was a descendant of the man pictured below, John C. Tidball whohad quite a career in artillery, he made a name for himself during the Civil War, and continued on to the rank of Brigadier General, he also served as the commandant of the United States Artillery School. The link at the bottom is to a manual Tidball wrote on heavy artillery.
The last link is to a short history of his career.

The second person from the right is supposed to be a German observer, Ferdinand Zeppelin, the inventor of the Zeppelin airship.

Yea, right.

But then, a Google search and WOW!

He also was on an expedition to find the source of the Mississippi River, etc. etc. etc.

What an interesting character!
