Contender Forearm Question
« on: January 21, 2008, 11:42:38 PM »
I recently bought my first (used) Contender.  It has Pachmayer grips and forend.  The forend is held on with only one screw.  Most photos I have seen of Contenders show two screws in the forend.  Will my Pachmayer forend work with another barrel?  I am looking to add a .22 and need to know if I have to purchase another forend.
Thanks

First congrats on a great purchase and welcome to the wacky & addictive world of Contenders and GBO.  Second, if you remove the one screw and pull off the rubber forend you'll find an adapter bar attached by two screws to the dovetailed bosses on your barrel.  Yes it will work on a 22 barrel, as long as it's not an old octagon barrel.  You'll have to put the adapter on that barrel(you can pick up extra adapters, but they're not just laying anywhere) and then put on the forend.  BTW, the 22 is ALWAYS the best next barrel you can get.  GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt   ;)

Thanks for the info, Walt.  Where should I look for another adapter?  Available from Midway, ect?

At one time they were all over e-bay.  I don't go there much any more so I can't tell if they still are.

You might want to shop around for that adapter, Midway has it for $16.79 while Grafs has it for $14.99.  Others may be + or -

I agree, that's a little steeper than I remember.  It's not THAT big a deal to change them if your not changing barrels too often.  Walt

Another thing to look for is in the mounting bar.  If it has places at each end for mounting screws, be sure to hang on to it .  It is for use on the 14" barrels.
