Looking for a lever gun to accompany a blackhawk.

I like the puma except the wood
I like the marlin except the reciever

What do you think is better in the catagories
1. looks
2. function
3. accuracy
4. value

thanks

Well I just bought a Puma, and I have shot a marlin before so here is my 2 cents.

1. LOOKS- you like the Puma but not the wood, but wood can be changed or refinished. You don't like the resever on the Marlin, you can;t do much about that.

2. FUNCTION-- I love the action on the Puma the Marlin is good too, but I think the Puma is smoother.

3.ACCURACY-- I can't say much about the accuracy on the Marlin, never really shot one that much for groups. For the Puma in 45lc that I owen and have only shot 30 rounds of Black Hills cowboy loads in it, the accurcy is great, and should get better as it breaks in and I start handloading for it.

4. VALUE-- I think there both pretty close but you can find good deals on the Puma.

I would say find a Puma, I think they look better and shoot great. As soon as I buy a pair of Vaquero's I'm going to buy another Puma in 38/357

I prefer the looks of the Winchester 1892 clones best myself. I've owned two of the Rossi made clones in .45 Colt and one Marlin Cowboy in .45 Colt. No contest on accuracy the clones beat the Marlin hands down. If you wanted to scope it the Marlin really is your only choice but if you'll use the factory irons to me the clones are the way to go.

I guess the Marlin is a bit easier to work on and definitely easier to clean from the breech but of the three clones I've owned two of which I still have they seem both smoother and more accurate to me. As stated if ya don't like the wood that's easily enough replaced me I have no problems with the wood on mine.

The Rossi as imported by EMF is called the Hartford.  For wood quality and finish, the EMF has it all over the Puma as imported by Legacy Sports.  My Hartford and my best friend's two old Interarms Pumas have functioned perfectly and were accurate from the start.  Conversely, while I have been able get great accuracy and function from my two Marlin CL's and first year .444, my results with several Marlin 94's in both .357 and .44 have been dismal, especially the .44's.  For a better look go here http://stevesgunz.com/SalesSG.htm and here http://www.emf-company.com/1892-winchester-rifle-carbine.htm

I've been looking at EMF

I'm really liking the case hardened.

Their models have the saddle ring - which to me just gets in the way.
Do all of their round barrel 92's have the ring I wonder?

Curtism 1234  .... Have both the Rossi's and Marlins, and you can't go wrong with either.  I was a fanatical about winchesters and win clones.  I like the looks and the feel of the actions.  I'm starting to soften on the Marlins, have a 357 CB and it does shoot!!!  If your looking to 'scope' it go marlin, but 1892s have the look.  It is all personal, get them both then I won't feel guilty about my extravagance.  Good Luck

Thanks all, I've made my mind up.

After looking at both, I think the Puma is the better rifle.

And the puma is putting out a scoped version this year. It's on their website and I know one place that already was them.

The Puma is a better looking gun .

The Marlins are easier / friendlier to scope ( or put a peep sight on ) .  And if you catch them on sale at Big 5 , cheaper .

God bless
