S&W model 25-5?

I just bought one from a dealer on GA. What should the chamber throats average compared to the bore size? I know S&W had some problems with these guns and the chamber dimensions.
I don't have this gun yet, so I can't measure the actual size of the chamber throats, just wondering what ratios would work for this pistol?

Why don't you just shoot the revolver after you take possession before worrying about the the dimensions?  I have never understood those who buy a firearm and before they shoot it; start wanting to change this or that about it.  The revolver may shoot just fine with the loads you intend to use; if not, then you start trying to solve the "problem".

MS Hitman, probably 1500 miles in between me and the gun? You talk like your not familiar with the problems S&W had with these guns? Having read some of you past posts I know better. Half the fun in handguns is tinkering, to me? Why else would someone reload, if not to improve ammunition? Maybe why at 59 I still ride a Harley?

I'm very aware that all manufacturers had, at one time or another, a problem with sloppy dimensions in their revolvers chambered in .45 Colt.  My point is why would one want to start correcting a problem unless it is identified as a problem.  Also, not every revolver had problems in the same degree. 

Maybe why at 42 I'm still an engineer.

I see where someone is asking what chamber throats should be.  I don't see anyone indicating they intend to change anything prior to shooting it.  It just isn't there.  For me, I always wonder about people who assume too much and don't actually answer the question being asked in the thread.  But that's just me.

S.B.:  I believe the throats on that M25 should run in the .452 - .455" range and so should the bores.   From somewhere I recall reading that some of the newer handguns or handgun models in the 45 Colt caliber are or have been pretty well standardized.  I would think the throats and bores should be pretty close in a S&W, possibly within one or two thousands. 

I'm not aware of any problems with the M25s.  The M25s are quality pieces.  It sounds like a nice piece.  I understand that S&W will stand behind their products.

I've never measured the throats in my revolvers - it just never occurred to me to do as the accuracy I was getting was what I was asking for and I wasn't having any problems with any particular loads.  I prefer cast bullets to run one thousands over bore - those seem to give me the best accuracy.  However, I think you would be unhappy with a .452 throat and a .454 bore but possibly not the other way around.  HTH.  Mikey.

After I confirmed that I wanted the gun and sent a money order for payment the seller backed out and sold this gun to a different buyer? Guess I'll start all over looking for a 25-5? Awfully sour about this deal.

My 25-5 has throats right at .456.  The groove/bore diameter is more in keep with what we expect.  Can't remember it exactly now, though.

What was the price you won it for? I  have one I acquired in sept an have not shot yet. As I understood the 25-5's without the pinned and recessed are fine and the throats are better...

there was/is a great one on the smith forums in the last day or so...

well sb it is the site but I forgot ya have to register to see the classifieds there... it was a LNIB 25-5 but the guy wanted to trade... it did not last long. I only noticed it because I have one and it was really nice!

tallpaul, the one I was dealing on was on Guns Amerioca? No S&W cylinders were every recessed except for magnums and rimfires? Yes, the later 25-5s without the pinned barrel, have a better reputation.
