"Artillery Through The Ages" book online
« on: January 14, 2008, 02:00:49 AM »
DD may want to put this in the "References" thread under "books online."  I saw an "internet" section there but that seems to link to articles, since we've now had a few postings of entire, classic artillery books online, maybe this merits a new section in the locked "references" thread?

This could already be listed there and I missed it, but I did check.  This book was listed as a title, but the link to the online version should be included as well.

I think as minimum, the "online books" section should include this, the Tidball Heavy Artillery book mentioned recently, and the Abbot book also mentioned recently.

I've probably used this particular book more than any other one I have, since it has so much information in such a concise form:

I bought my copy from a historical book, street vendor on April 7, 1975 as I was waiting in the line to see America's Freedom Train which stopped in Albany, NY at the beginning of it's nationwide tour.  It's a great little book absolutely crammed with good info. on artillery.

Read it!

Tracy and Mike
Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin'-cool,
I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!

This is the book that got me started in artillery,
either bought by my parents at Castelo de sanmarcos or Fort Clinch in 1967,
it's been down hill ever since!  ;D  I still have my original well worn copy and missing its cover.
Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!
