Non Lethal Ammunition

Does anyone have any idea where I can find ballistic test for non lethal ammuniton? Like the stuff @ www.firequest.com
Or, does anyone have any 1st hand knowledge of performance of this type ammunition? Thanks.

In law enforcement circles, that sort of thing is called "less lethal" ammunition, not non-lethal, and I can tell you that from a self defense perspective, it's not something you want to use, ever.  If, as a civilian, you shoot somebody with anything, you had better be able to justify the use of lethal force, and if lethal force is justified, why use anything less?

If you're just trying to scare deer out of the garden or something similar, that's a different story.  Unfortunately, I've never used any sort of less lethal projectile other than trying wax plugs in primed (no powder) .38 shells that somebody on here suggested for shooting wasp nests down.  The neighborhood raccoons no longer eat out of my garbage.

A neighbor shot a “former” friend of his with a blank causing a minor injury.  In turn his mis-adventure cost him many thousands of dollars in civil damages.  Less then lethal projectiles can cause body harm.  I recently read about a major city paying for a persons lost eye because of the police using such a projectile.  Even when you want to do the right thing, you can pay a big price.

Have you thought about the other tools available to you in the escalation of force?

In my younger days we had a case of some low brow shooting a penned deer at close range with one of those plastic case and bullet with primer and no powder loads intended for indoor target practice.  It broke the skin while causing a bruise, a classic situation for starting an infection.  By the time some body caught on to the deer's plight it was too late to save it.  So yes, a deer was killed with a plastic bullet.
