I was in the gunshop picking up bullets for reloading my .223.  Noticed a box of .227 bullets for a good price - looks like they have been laying around for a while by the price.

I checked my manuals, googled it, but haven't come up with much.  Google sent me to Midway - they still sell them (about double) and warn not to use in .224 barrels.

Anybody have more info on this?  Is it an obsolete caliber I am not familar with?  Just curious if anybody knows.

in the past (1st half of the 20th century) there were many different ".22's" they ran the gamut of .220-.228 bore sizes. most bores were standardized for .224 diameter by the 50's. DO NOT USE THEM IN ANY BARREL THAT DOES NOT CALL FOR .227 DIA. BULLETS!!! they will create EXTREME pressures and most likely will not make it down the barrel.
