Grind to fit Limbsaver pad

Talked to a gunsmith about installing a Limbsaver pad on my Marlin 1895. He says he has trouble grinding the Limbsaver and prefers to use the Decelerator pad from Pachmayr. He says the Limbsaver pad has small particles of material come off when stored in a guncase. Anybody out there have any thoughts on this? Thanks.

If he follows the instructions and freezes the pad for finishing and uses WD40, he won't have any trouble finishing it. Some of the Limbsavers in the past have had problems melting, Limbsaver will replace those free. They also have a pad treatment like Kick-Eez's Slick-Eez that keeps them from being sticky and grabbing clothing when thrown to the shoulder. I've been using the Slick-Eez for quite a while, but the Limbsaver product is new, haven't tried it yet. I have a dozen Limsavers mounted, love em, have one Decelerator, it's a nice pad and better looking IMO, but when it comes to reducing felt recoil on hard kickers, the Limsaver gets my vote. The #10102 prefit may fit fine, although I've seen some reports that it may not too. You can print their templates to find out if it matches, be sure to follow their instructions for printing.

Option: To give your pad a clean finished look freeze your
pad overnight, and use Scotchbright® or 240 grit sandpaper
lubricated with W-D 40 or equivalent to remove any
burs and smooth the pad
