my 1895g is growing on me, I put a big loop on the lever and changed the old weaver 4X to a leopold 2-7 and am now running some hot loads through it, just keeps getting better, can't wait to get a full length tub mag on it, need it before gopher season, show my friends what a tack driver this thing is.

I bought my 1895 slightly used.It had a big scope on it.I took that off and shoot it with iron sights.Very very accurate rifle.
This was my fourth 45/70 and my first lever action one.The Marlin is the best.If I can see it I can hit it.

45/70..it's almost a religion.

"I hope it's a good one with none of the troubles I have been reading about. "

I've never heard of any troubles with the 1895 and I bought my 1st one in the 1970s.

Just bought a DRC ghost ring with side shields along with matching front ramp sight insert. I think I'll try some of that special luminous paint for low light conditions. Has anyone tried this??

I hope I don't have to move my sights too far off center to be on target!! We'll see.

I am looking forward to the arrival of my new Classic.

I've never seen or heard about a DRC ring until I read what you wrote and looked it up on google.  Those look like they would be perfect for these types of rifles.  I like having something to guard my sights from getting knocked around.

Because I live in Canuckistan(Canada for most of you folks) I had to order the rear DRC  sight and the dove tail XS  front sight to go into my ramp. This way the total is less than $100.00 and therefore they can ship to me without an import and export permit. This required a special order!!!

Have pity on us Canucks, when it comes to gun stuff as we are discriminated against by the new U.S. laws.

I put a scope on my 22" 1895 even before I shot it, and had always been happy with it. Perfect functioning and centered groups never wandering.  So I like mine too.  Have you read my post "Levering review"?

Just received my 1895 Classic in 45-70 today. Bought it mail order from Calgary. It took only five days to get it. Great service from Russells Sport. Can't wait to shoot it ;D

Just received my 1895 and the fit and finish is excellent. Now to see how she shoots. The DRC ghost ring I ordered is going to take some time to get here so I'll see what these old eyes can do with the factory sights.

« Reply #40 on: January 20, 2008, 02:55:23 PM »
I have a Marlin 1895 26 " Octagon barrel I am wanting to put a Ladder flip-up type rear sight on it. And maybe with a peep sight. I have looked around at The Harrington Smith and the Smith Marlin Sights . Can anyone help me out as to what they know and have field tested. I would appreciate you help.

Thanks
