Continuation of the Savage Project
« on: January 17, 2008, 10:40:19 AM »
Back in November or it may have been October, I picked up a Model 12 single shot action, stainless with a .473 bolt. I also got a Savage sporter laminated stock (pillar bedded). It's been "hanging out" in my shop during deer season. Well, I finally ordered a barrel for it. Actually I priced a Krieger barrel and when the cost started to get over $600 for just the barrel, I put the brakes on that one. So, I went with a Shilen Barrel, stainless, bead blasted in 6.5x55 Swede. Total cost of $274. That seemed to be more reasonable and I don't think the deer will notice if they are any "deader" if the bullet comes out of a "less expensive" barrel.

Well, the wait is a few months from what I understand. So, I guess I'll just have to hunt some fox, shoot some handguns 'n such to bide my time until it gets here.  ::) Oh well, I'm sure I'll find something to do! ;D

I remember your project well. Continue to keep us posted on your project. Just to be clear here, you are talking about waiting on the barrel...correct?

LAO,

Yes. Initially I was going to order an ER Shaw barrel. However, after doing a bunch of reading from various post on various forums, I changed my mind and went with the Shieln. Now from what the barrel seller has said, I probably will not get the barrel until the end of March.

But I'll keep you posted on the progress.
