Suurrrrre... It sounds like a Wrangler .30-30 (or .32  ;)  ), and the serial number is: XXXXXXXX.     ;D

It's a 30/30 serial #4972XXX   so its the wrangler version of the mod.94

I don't know if it's a Wrangler, or another model, or one that someone's added a large loop lever to - I only alluded that your (meager) early description made it sound similar to the Wrangler pattern/format.

The search engine I use to find dates, only allows numbered serial numbers, no letters. Entering it this way it states your rifle was manufactured in 1894, which I doubt. Either way it's a real Winchester. Is the number your using in front of the lever, beside the back of the forearm?

I suspect your rifle was made after 1964 with the large loop ,and saddle ring, but it IS a Winchester, and that in itself is good.

I passed on a Wrangler in .32 Winchester in the early 80's.  It was set up as you describe.  I am sorry I let it go by, but at the time I was put off by the caliber, believing the myth that a .32 could not be accurate and was totally obselete.  You got the rifle for less than I would have paid back then.  Now if I could only go back in time and do the same.

stalkerhawk,

If you go to the Winchester section of the rifle forum and click on the information and stickys thread, then click on the one where you can enter serial numbers it will take you to a link and you should be able to click on the winchester section and then the model 94, enter the ENTIRE serial number and it will tell you your answer.
