Sourdough - About your 338-378

I was wondering what your setup was... I have been having a fight in my head between the 300RUM and the 338-378 mag...  What glass do you have on there, and what loads are you using to what effect?

The only real difference between the two for me is the 20% more energy from the .338-378 at 600 yards or so.... but I'm not sure if I will need over 2,000ft-lbs (300RUM with a 180grn) at 600 yards anyways.

I started out with an Accumark Weatherby in .338/378 with factory Muzzlebrake.  I put a Night Force 4.5X15X50 scope on to start with.  Fifth round sheared off the screws to the Leupold base, and scope went flying.  Had holes for scope base drilled and re-tapped, using over sized screws.  Remounted scope and found out scope is too heavy for recoil.  Unable to stop it shifting in rings.  Went to a Burris scope.  Lighter scope works fine.

As for loads, I am shooting 225gr Nosler Accubonds, in front of IMR 7828.  Can't remember the grains of powder right off the top of my head, but is seems like it's 102grs of powder.  Anyway it cronies at 3210fps. I'm also loading 200gr Noslers with 105gr of IMR 7828, and 250gr Noslers with 99gr of same powder.

Have you got those 200 or 250 grainers chronoed?

I know I don't need the .338-378... but I am trying to justify it in my head.  Pretty much everybody here knows what I'm talking about.  And The difference would be between the Remington XCR at $800-$850, and the Weatherby Mark V synthetic at $1200-$1250....  Either way I would top it with something in the 15-20 max power range. 

How did that kill zone look on that 800 yard moose at 15 power?

Have not shot those 200 and 250gr loads enough to see how well they are going to do.  Just loaded them and went to try them for accuracy.  It started snowing that day and all I could tell was that I was on the paper.  Then it turned off cold and I have not taken it back to the range again.
