Just ordered a Howa with the new Hogue stock in .223 Varminter and a 3-9 Nikon scope. I heard the Hogue stock is a nice bit of work with that rifle. Hopefully this combination will be a good shooter. From the other reports I've seen here the Howa is a good shooting rifle. The ones I have seen in the stores have a pretty slick action.

I bought a stainless one in 270 with the regular stock and put a pepper laminated Boyd stock on it.  I also used a Nikon 3x9 scope (mine is the BDC). It looks and shoots great. I also have an older one in 223 that is very accurate, it has the old plastic stock but seems to be better made than the new one was. The 223 says Interarms on it while the 270 says Legacy, not sure if the used the same stock or not.

Called Howa today because I couldn't find their Varmint spec. in a 24 barrel on their web site anymore. The guy told me they discontinued the 24 in favor of a new 20" barrel. Better balance and handling. Tested to be just as accurate out to 400yds.
 Told him my dealer said he searched all over and got the last 24 around. He said he probably did because they're not shipping them anymore and said I could send mine in and have the barrel trimmed if I decided to at a later date.

Sounds good. I don't like the Hogue stocks because they don't fit me right. I have only one Howa and my gun smith made me a custom stock of some old blackwalnut I had.

Got the Howa yesterday and haven't shot it yet. It is a gem. The stock fits perfect, the trigger is better then my Weatherby SMOA, everything thing about it is smooth and sleek. The only thing I'm concerned about is that the nice soft Hogue stock. I noticed it kind of sticks a little when brushing up against cloth. May be a hinderance with a heavy jacket and a quick shot. Although in the varmint set up its not really a quick handling gun anyway.
Will let you all know how it shoots when the temp gets above 10.

I didn't like the Hogue but that is JMO. I don't think you will be disappointed with the rifle. I'm thinking about trying to find one in 25-06 as soon as i save up enough pennies. I don't get to shoot as much as I would like to but I really like both of my Howas. I understand what you mean about the 10 degrees. It hurts worse than it used to. Good luck with your Howa, I hope you like it as much as I like mine.
