« on: October 12, 2008, 04:28:43 PM »
just picked one up today. I am interested in some loads people have had luck with with this gun. Bullet  brand and weight powder weight etc. It will be used for varmints not for paper punching

MOGLEY,
I fully understand what you are doing: but I want to give you a few words of caution
it is best to work with in the guide lines of the good reloading manuals and work up the loads in your barrel with the componets you have.
every barrel is it's own, what works good in some one elses will not be so in yours and could give very high pressure.

I feel it is best to ask more what powders and bullets preform best and not ask for a load

rickyp,

I totally understand what your saying. Thanks for the heads up though. I am reloading for 9 different calibers right now. My idea was to see if there was a high percentage of a type of bullet and powder that was preferred more than others. Not anything outside the manuals. I check everything against them anyway. I am not into super hot loads. I prefer something accurate over something fast.  For instance, I asked the same guestion on a 204 NEF rifle and found a preference for either 4198 and reloader 10x powder and that sierra blitzkings 32 gr flew a l;ot different than the 32gr hornady v-max. That saved a lot of frustration as I was using the v-max bullets and as soon as I changed the sierras helped me get a 1/2" group . I know that each gun is different but in the interest of 25.00 a pound for powder I would like to load less experimental loads and load more final loads. Even though I enjoy reloading..........

The lyman 49th edition says that h380 and 55 gr bullets are "legendary". But today there are only 20 different brands and types of 55 grain bullets. I listed my gun specifically to MAYBE cut down on one variable.

Well I am pumped!  went to the range today and tried a ladder test of rl 15 and 55gr v-max bullets. 34,34 1/2 and 35 gr. This a completly new set up so the first 5 shots got it to zero. Cleaned the barrel real good and let  it cool down. Then shot the next 34 gr loads and............ 3 of the 5 were touching each other! the other two opened it up to a 3/4" group. WOW!! I like results like that. Then I tried the 34.5 and the 35 loads and they oped up respectively to 1.75" group. So it looks like it is going to 34 though I have already loaded some up with 33.8 just to make sure it does'nt get better.

One other thing I did was adjust the trigger. No it is not the accutrigger but I did mess with the engagemnet screw and spring to where it is MUCH MUCH better but not anywhere unsafe. It breaks clean with no creep. I really have to get a trigger scale though. "nice" "better"  "much much better" is not much of a scale for anyone wondering. It is a lot like fat, ugly & rich............it is relative of what you comparing it to.
Now I need to shoot it over my chrony and do a trajectory table, scale it down, and attach to the stock.
