In the 70's and 80's the old now bancrupt Harrington and Richardson made some 30-30 Toppers that had a tapered barrel. The barrel was about the same size at the chamber as present day handi's but was tapered from there down to the muzzle. I like to call it a slimline profile.

I own two such barrels and they do become available from time to time on the classifieds in this subsection of forums. Those barrels will not fit on the present day handi SB2 frame. I have also seen a nickel plated offering from that time period also. I wish I would have purchased it. Here is a pic of the "Topper" type barrel.

The closest contour to the orginal H&R 30-30 barrels made in any current H&R rifle is the Superlight, but they're only available in Hornet, 223 and 243. :'(

My son has a 30-30 barrel for toppers bought in the early 70's.
It will on the later H&R - NEF frames. He also had 22 Hornett
That would fit on new frames. Those barrels were expensive
A whole $16.00 Out the door. Wish I could buy barrels at that price today.

I have been thinking lately that a 30-30 in a short SuperLight barrel would be great.
I would love to have one if they ever offer it. It would be a nice fit in with the other SL's I believe.
