Save me from myself !
« on: August 07, 2008, 05:16:09 AM »
I picked up a Ruger Hawkeye in .358 and I can"t get it out of my mind. I have a Blr .358 and have killed lots of game with it 30 bears, elk, moose hogs etc. So I really don"t need one but, it's haunting me I'm even trying to figure out how to rake up money to buy it. However if I do I might not have enough to go on my Spring bear hunt next May. The price is right 555 I'm in a real quandry here, guess I'm certifiable  ;D

Wow !  That's a tough call Country Boy.

With the hunt, you invest your money in great memories and bear steak.

The Hawkeye would be an investment, and the cash would be recoverable, maybe with a profit ?

I see three choices.  (A) Check your battery for a gun you seldom use, and has little sentimental value, and sell it. Sure, you WILL kick yourself in the butt later, but you will have the Hawkeye and bear meat both.
     (B) Kiss your Banker's butt and make payments. Or,
    (C) Torture yourself until you decide which one you want most.

I can't spot an easy way out.

Don't do it!  Having two 358s will create a "lovers triangle" that will haunt you every time you open the gun safe.  I know: been there, done that.

Life is full of compromises.  :o

I couldn"t save myself. Ordered a new Ruger hawkeye in .358. I found an August issure of handloader which convinced me, I can get a little more vel from the hawkeye than my blr. But, I know from experience the blr .358 is the best rifle for hunting over bait. I've killed 27 bears with it.
