When it was owned and operated in the US (Southern CA IIRC) they had an excellent gun, but I have heard that the new models made in Canada by the company that bought the name and rights have a less steller rep or so I have heard couple people say. But I doubt any real change if they stuck to original specks. The downside to the original and I guess the new model is the weight and and kind of odd way the saftey's works. I really liked mine and it shot POA every time and only ever had one jam due to a using a long instead of long rifle round.

When I decided to buy another rimfire belly gun about a dozen years ago I went with the Beretta Model 21 Bobcat.   Great little pistol, very reliable, suprizingly accurate and the tip up barrel is very handy.   It's competiton was the other tip up, the Taurus PT22, because I already had (and liked) a few of their revolvers.   But I liked the Bobcat better and so went with it.   No regrets.

Favorite one though, one that I bought about 50 years ago, was the Astra Cub 22 Short.   It put a heck of a lot of meat in the cook pot for me.

Only 25 ACP's I've owned was a Walther Model 8 and a Colt Junior Pocket - both also a very long time ago.   Never felt the 25's were an advantage over the 22's then.

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

I have no personal experience with the Phoenix other than shooting a couple mags thru one owned by a friend. It seemed reliable enough and the sights were regulated pretty good. The reviews I have seen have been mixed, with some loving them and some hating the pistol. The Taurus and Beretta, I have heard more bad than good. I really don't know of anyone who makes a high quality .22 belly gun. If you're not locked into rimfire, you might want to consider the P3AT or the LCP. Much more effective for SD and smaller/lighter than the two rimfires you mentioned. I think the price for both is in the $250 range. I have a couple of P3ATs and a P32 that serve me well. Good luck in your search.

Thanks all for the responses i am just looking for a cheap to shoot gun because i don't have much money for ammo so was considering a 22lr. I had a beretta 950B at one time but let it go for other things. I am still in the consideration phase because just got done with college and still have to get certified and licensed so will be a bit before i buy something.

I bought a phoenix arms 22lr pistol a few months back (new) from a local shop.
I went out the very same day and tried about 12 different types of ammo, and none of them were reliable. Went back to the shop and  complained, so they tweaked with it for a minute and told me to try it again.
The next week I did just that...with a couple more types of ammo I hadn't tried.

I gave up and returned it.

That's the only experience I've had with them, but I decided I was better off buying a better gun used than to save a few bucks with that thing.

I had one of the Taurus Pt's and loved it.  Inexpensive, accurate, and I never had a jam of any kind.  It was lot's of fun but I still felt it was bigger and heavier than it needed to be.  I saw a Walther TPH at the shop last month.  Now if you want to talk about small!  That was a beautiful gun but was also $250 used.  44 Man
