22 scope rings???

Hey guys. I have a Savage bolt action 22. It has the dovetail grooves on it and theres a scope on it right now. The rings are weavers. I dont know which ones though. They are peep throughs. I dont like the scope setting that high. Here's the problem. The rings have moved forward alittle over time and i want some new and better rings that wont move. Whats the best kind for dovetail grooves? Thanks for any advice.

I pretty much use Simmons rings available from Wal Mart for dove tails.  I wouldn't say they are the best at about $7 a pair, but I've had no problems with them. 

Kwik Site makes a base adapter that mounts to the dovetail and accepts standard Weaver style rings.

Thanks Evoc One. I'll probably get me some of them Simmons rings. Have you ever used the adapter mount?

I've not used the adapters.  To me it would seem like using high rings when you don't need to. 

I think the Kwik Sites would be ok, though. 

Your Savage may have Weaver Tip Offs designed for the 3/8" dovetails.  Believe it or not, Weaver used to make a one piece mount for a British Enfield .303 that used the 3/8" dovetail rings.  I've used them for years and they work just fine.  You should still be able to find the Weaver rings that are not see-thru, if that's what they are.

Do you know how or why the scope rings moved?  I've not experienced movement on bolt action before, unless there is a problem with the dovetail.  Semi-auto's are known to occasionally cause the scope to inch forward due to the slamming of the bolt in the receiver.  Perhaps the dovetail is a bit damaged or rounded?  Is there enough room left to relocate the rings?  you may have to reposition them on the scope tube. 

What I'm getting at is, if the dovetails are buggered, you'll probably have a difficult time with any mount. 

If they are, it may not be the end.  It's possible to re-groove a dovetail with a sharp file enough to get a decent bite.

I've had good luck with just about EVERY dovetail rings on my bolt actions, though.
Use some loctite, toothpaste, nail polish, etc. on the grooves as you tighten the rings. This will ensure they don't slip. You could also peen the grooves just fore and aft of the rings.

  The BKL rings are good..but I have also had good success with Millet rings. The Millet rings have a somewhat different clamping method, and it is tightened with an allen wrench, rather than screws as some rings are. The way they are constructed, you can get plenty of lateral adjustment before even touching the adjustment screws..
   The BKL shown above may limit your ejection clearance with a bolt action..BKL also makes models that clear the area near the ejection port if needed..
     BTW, with scope rings, it is not a bad idea to seat the clamps with a drop of locktite at each corner..

Burris Signature Rimfire are outstanding rings and I also like the Burris Deluxe. Leupold makes some really nice ones and the Millet Angle-Loc have a large following although I have trouble getting them centered with the bore. Don't rule out another set of Weaver rings they get the job done for not a lot of money.
