.40 Caliber Bullet?
« on: January 27, 2008, 03:31:57 AM »
Does anyone make a .40 caliber conical?  Every time I search for .40 caliber I keep coming up with the .40 caliber saboted bullet for inlines.  I don't see anything listed on Black Jack Hill's site either.  My .40 caliber 1-48 twist barrel is very accurate with roundballs, but I would like something a little heavier for hogs.   I would think the conical would have to be fairly short for the 1-48 twist so I might not be gaining all that much in weight.  Anyone have any ideas or know of a manufacturer?

Western Bullet makes a bullet that may work if it's soft enough and sized right, they offer some of their bullets sized differently than stated, so it may help to give em a call or email.  ;)

Quickdtoo, thanks for the site.  I've been thinking along those lines.  I've been looking at the Lee Precision .40 Caliber/10MM molds.  I cast roundballs and some bullets already so one more wouldn't be a problem.  I may have to go that way.

The Lyman #403169 looks like it would be a good mold to try. ;)

Tim, Don't you think the 240 grain bullet might be a little to long to stabilize in the 1-48 twist barrel?  That weight bullet would really be an advantage over the 93 gr. patched ball.

I dunno, but it sure would be a great one if it would, wouldn't it!!  ;)

If you can get a length on the bullet, this rate calculator might give you an idea if it will or not. http://kwk.us/twist.html
