revolver chambers not aligned
« on: January 30, 2008, 11:07:41 AM »
I have a 22lr/mag revolver that shoots low and to the left-2" each way at 20 feet

I suspected that the chambers were out of alignment so I fired 22 cb short , CB hp and 22 lr into a pail of water. I retrieved all three bullets and all have a heavy scuff marks ion one side.

When I switched out the lr cylinder for the 22 mag I got the same shot group.

What can I do, if anything, to correct the problem?

any suggestions would be great.

What kind of revolver do you have? If it's something like a "Rough Rider", I'd chunk it. If it's a Ruger I'd send it back to the factory for repair.

I would take it back, sell it or trade it.  If it isn't spitting lead back at you or giving you powder burns on your hands when you use a two handed hold then it is not dangerous, just not well made or put together.  2" either way at 20' will never give you any shooting enjoyment.  Get rid of it and get something you can enjoy shooting...  JMTCW.  Mikey.

If you are getting good groups, you have a sight alignment problem.  If you have a cylinder problem, your groups will be terrible.  To check the cylinder alignment, you will have to take a rod that is close to bore diameter and run it down the barrel.  It there is an alignment problem, you should be able to feel it catch on the throat of the cylinder on one side or the other.  It could just be that your sights at not looking where the gun is shooting since all of your groups seem to be in the same place.  I assume you do not have adjustable sights or you would have tried that already.  With fixed sights, you will have to have someone turn the barrel in slightly, and that will move the group to the right.  By carefully filing down the front sight you will raise your group.  44 Man
