Beware - shotgun purchase adventure
« on: January 29, 2008, 06:08:44 PM »
Some of you may know from other posts that I decided to buy a Benelli Super Black Eagle.  So Large Sporting Goods Store X did a computer search and ordered the model/camo pattern I wanted from a different store (within same chain).  The gun arrived and I purchased it.  Got it home and noticed that was dirt on the butt, scratches at both sling swivels, and a lot of burned & unburned powder in the chamber.  Called a buddy who has 2 Benellis and asked if they test-fired them at the factory.  He said yes, but that they cleaned them afterwards.

My "new" $1500 Benelli was used!

Took it right back and pointed out the condition, and the store staff, to their credit, were apologetic and accomodating and let me return the gun while they search for another one.

The point is, look the dern thing over, even if brand new, before driving 1.5 hours each way.  I was lucky that they didn't say, "all sales final."
