Sharps .40/90

Veral, I have a new Shiloh Sharps in .40/90 Bottle-neck.  Barrel dimensions are .400"x.408".  I have not yet made a cast of the throat. 

I'm thinking about using the 41 caliber 265 or 280 WLN design.  I think the WFN design might be too large in diameter right in front of the crimp groove.  I have a copy of the reamer dimensions if that helps.

Have you ever heard of anyone using the WFN or WLN designs in this caliber?  Any suggestions?

  The WFN  and WLN will both shoot very well, but the LFN is a far better choice with larger caliber guns.  With the bottle neck case, and probably almost no throat, bearing length may be the limiting factor in choosing a bullet weight.  If this turns out to be a problem, the LCFN is a very good choice, and has exactly the same meplat diameter as the LFN.

  The reason I don't like the WFN and  WLN in the larger calibers is a combination of too much meplat for best kills at the power available with a large cartridge, and this burdened with poor aerodynamics.  If one wants to minimize recoil and still have a fast kiling short range hunting load, the WFN or WLN get the nod, but that 90 gr case wasn't intended for wimpy charges!
