Just got a 1999 marlin 1895 450 ported
« on: January 13, 2008, 05:27:55 PM »
Just got a 1999 marlin 1895 450 ported new in the box. I've always wanted one from the first time I saw it in the gun mags but at the time I couldn't come up with the cash. It had to be ported and I wanted new so after a few months of looking I finely found one and for less then the used ones I've been looking at.
Cant wait to get it out to the range and really get everyone wound up with the 18 1/2" ported barrel...naw, really I'll keep clear of ever one.
I've just got done putting a 1.75-6 x 32 Leupold ver XIII with weaver mount and weaver extended rings. A scope works better for my eyes then open sights and the 1.75-6 should good for the woods of Minnesota that I hunt.
I'm planing to use Hornady 325 grain LEVERevolution ammo. I looks like it should shoot flat (for a .458 slug)out too 200 yards and plenty of power to take... well any thing in north America.
The Wife and Girl don't find the new gun as thrilling as I do so just wanted to tell someone who might be as thrilled as I am over a lever gun. The wife gave me the It's a good"n". Translation (I'm reading this book, play with your gun.)

You may need to call Marlin to see if you can get the XLR magazine tube follower that is designed to work with the LeveRevolution ammo.  The 1895M has the old magazine tube follower.
We learn something new everyday whether we want to or not.

New part is on it's way....Getting in might be fun?
I'll have to look at it and maybe ask for some help.

Dino I've had a 450 Marlin for about 4yrs now and they do thump.  Where in MN do you hunt?

Hey whiskybill:

I hunt Afton with bow all over with black powder and will be in Ely this year for the rifle season.

Dino  I live west of Afton. Hunt the Hinckley area with the 450 it sets them down real good. Use a Bushnell red dot scope works slick

Whiskybill;

Haven't shot it yet but some time soon. I used to hunt in the old grove, over by the 3m land off  Co. Rd. 19.

Take care

I think that you will love that new .450. I've had mine for 5 or so years and love it. Everything I've hit with it has given up the ghost right quick. Let us know how that scope combo works. I've been wanting to scope mine for a while now.

Thanks K.K

I haven't had time (work) and the weather up in Minnesota is more for ice fishing then shooting.
When it gets better I'll be out shooting ...I'm trying to get into a gun club at this time, we'll see what happens.
