Accuracy of SURVIVOR in .308 ?

 OK ,here goes. I have an USH in 12ga and just purchased a Survivor in .308. ......Did I need either  ? NO !

I had pieces in both calibers so mine was a quest to simplify and go on a road of discovery. I was warned not to expect much out of the H&R and NEF brands. Well , the USH has been anything but disappointing. Now with the .308 I am just getting started. I have a few Varget loads that have proved extremely consistent and accurate in my other .308's. What is a "normal" group for one of these SURVIVOR models ? I am not expecting benchrest accuracy obviously but just the same I do not expect slingshot groups . If I cannot hold 5 shots into the end of a pop can at 100yds I will pass.  Comments from those out there who have one out there ?

after i sited ,in my first 3 shot group was around a 1.5'' . i wasn't trying too hard, the ammo was cheap hotshot 180 grain sp. I'm planning to shoot 150-160 grain, however, this was the only .308 century had in stock at the time i ordered. i recently scored some once fired federal brass to work up my hand loads also .

with good ammo i would say MOA (1 inch at 100 yards) a lot of em have shot better but MOA is the norm.

try some 168gr matchkings with rl 15 or varget or just buy some federal gold match and call it a day

I don't own one yet, but I am ordering one soon.... well, tomorrow. Shop here sells them for about $260.  I already have a scope on the way. Nothing I have read would lead me to believe that this rifle won't do what I want it to do, which is knock down deer in Kentucky.

One of the things that clinched the deal for me was the barrel swap offered for these rifles. Way I see it, if this rifle is not accurate enough to suit me, I'll just get a shotgun barrel and use it for small game.

+1 on the Federal Match ammo

I restocked mine to some cinnamon laminates...added a steel forearm spacer & steel trigger guard..free floated the forearm..and had about 5 hours of polishing the bore on it..and a couple hours in on the trigger..



With the Federal ammo...1/2" groups were the norm with it...at 100 yards...and when I held my head at the right angle and crossed my feet...I could do this at 350 yards..on a 3"x5" card



I can't say yours will do as well..but one can always hope it does.. BTW...I sold this little jewel of a rifle to my next door neighbor...and he has taken more deer with that rifle than one would believe..all with the cheap Wally World Winchester 150grain Power Points..I never really ever found as good a handload as what those 2 would do..

You can expect at least MOA if not better. This gun will not let you down.

Below is a pic of mine. As most the survivor stock just doesn't stay. This rifle loves Federal Power Shock 180 gr. right off the shelf. I took a nice muley and an antelope this year with this rifle. Muley - 330 yds by range finder.....Antelope - 275 yds same. Good shootin.

My accuracy in the Survivor .308 has been excellent using 165 grain Federal Vital Shock Sierra Game King. I deer hunt with this round for both Whitetail and Axis. I use it in both a Survivor .308 and a Remington 700 in 30-06 with a 16 in. barrel. Both have an overall length of around 36 in. In the Survivor I've made shots out to 250 yds. and usually will have a 2-3 in. group at 200 yds. which is more then good enough for what I use it for.

My .308 shoots very well on the Wally World Federal 150 gr premium NOSLER BALLISTIC TIP. The below picture was the only range shootiing my 308 has had. These three shots were "before deer season sight in". I have not had time to get back to the range to Dial it in.

I also added a break to my gun. It kicks like a .223 now (and it is the loudest thing you have ever heard)
