special height rings?
« on: August 01, 2003, 02:51:11 AM »
Does anyone make custom or special rings in a variety of heights?  I like my scopes as low as posible and I run into the proble of rings that are either too high or too low all the time.
somewhere betwixt a baulk and a breakdown

I haven't seen any ads for them but many custom makers modify or make custom rings for their high grade customs......very expensive.....I use the chart in catalogs such as Brownells that list the heights of rings and bases in a consistant measuring manner to select rings/bases and there are standard brand rings that vary among the manufactors by hundredth and tenths of a inch in the class of rings..such as low, std, and type ...Weaver style, dovetail front-windage rear Redfield type........many times you can find a ring brand slightly higher or lower to fit a paticular need.....and if you are going to have some made ....it is usually easier and cheaper to have the BASE modified...this can be done easily on some gun/base combos and there are blank bases available for this use .......HTH..good luck and good shooting!!!

scopes and rings

Matching scopes and rings to get the lowest mount possible has always been a gray area for me. Especially if you are ordering one or the other. Usually you can take your rifle in to your local gun shope and they will help you fit a set of mounts from what they have on hand. I had a guy try four ring mounts on my 22 til he found a set that was tall enough. Had I order those rings I would have wasted alot time and money trying to get the right ones.
