1) Does Browning make two action lengths in the BLR; for example, a shorter action for 308 and such cartridges and a longer one for the 30/06 and magnum cartridges?

2) If there is a long action length, did Browning ever makes these with the steel receivers?

Yes.  The steel framed (and very heavy) long action was introduced in the mid to late 1980's and remained until the advent of the pistol gripped Lightning and its alloy action in about 1995.

miked:  According to Fjestad's Blue Book of Gun Values, the steel long action version of the BLR  was produced from 1991 through 1994 in .270, 30.06 and 7mm Rem Mag.  The alloy versions started in 1995 with the Lightning version, as previously posted by Blackhawk44.
