Accuracy Expetations of Encore or Contender
« on: February 27, 2008, 02:18:54 PM »
I've been toying with the idea of a switch BBL rifle  in 308/30-06 for cast bullet playing and hunting and in 22-250 for whatever, then that light went off,  I wonder what accuracy I can expect from an Encore in .223, [cheaper to feed] and a .308.  both out to 220 yds. ??
same with Contenders but with Contender based rounds ; 30-30, 30-H, .223 ??

You should expect to obtain MOA accuracy with those rounds.  I've never yet had a T/C Encore or Contender that wouldn't shoot at least MOA with the right loads.

While you are going to get lots of the same folks, this is more appropriately asked on the TC Rifles forum, down the page a bit.  Many of us have both rifle and pistol, but this forum is the handgun one.

With every scoped Encore or Contender rifle OR handgun barrel, my 100 yard accuracy has been no worse than 1.5 MOA and usually, in the case of rifles, a lot better.  My 22-250, 223 & 222 barrels all do 0.5 to 0.75 MOA with 70 grain Speer Semi-Spitzers.

Every Encore barrel I have owned, except my .460 S&W, has shot near 1 MOA.

I guess I'm a little confused, are you talking about 22 cast bullets?  Then you might consider slower velocities.  If you are talking copper, then you'll love a good 223.  Cheap and oh so accurate in a well made handload.
