Bought a good one...Beretta 70S
« on: January 27, 2011, 09:32:51 PM »
I haven't shot it at a target yet, but this one looks like a keeper.  It has about a 3 1/2" barrel so it's very compact, and an 8 or 9 shot magazine.  The grip circumference is handfilling, especailly since the left side has a thumbrest.  This model with adjustable sights was made from the mid 70s to sometime in the 80s.  I never paid any attention to them before, and don't know if I've ever seen one before.  They're supposed to be extremely reliable and I would expect durable too, since Beretta uses the same frame for a .380 pistol.

I saw this one while checking a local board.  The price didn't seem too much out of line and it looked good in the picture.  When I met the seller to look at it, it looked better than the Walther P22 pistol I used to have.  A friend of mine likes these, and I did for a while, but the plastic front sight turned me off, especially after it fell off when I pulled the pistol out of a Fobus holster.

This one is higher quality, being of all steel construction, and it just looks cool.  I hope it turns out to be as accurate as it is stylish.

I have one and it's very accurate. You can overload the mag and cause a jam on the first round, so don't load as many as you can, load one less. At least that's my experience, great pistol well made. The Israilis used them with great effect in a PLO eradication program in Europe after Munich.

I bought one yesterday at one of my favorite gun shops.  At 200 out the door, I believe it was a good deal.  Made in 1980 according to date code.  Great shape though the magazine finger extension appears to be filed shorter.  Looking to get it to the range soon.

I had one, sold it, missed it so much I got another. They seem to eat anything you want to feed them and the fit and finish is superb. However both of mine shot/shoot high, even with the rear sight bottomed out, and magazines are hard to source. Still makes for a great addition to my fishing vest and maybe someday I'll find a smith who can solder or braze on a taller front sight. In the meantime I just aim low...
