Don't know about where you live, but Florida sows can and do have 2 litters per year.  Quite prolific!

Hogs can bred any day of any month. Starting when they are 6 months of age. The gestation period is 3 months 3 weeks and 3 days. They can have a litter up to 12 depending on the conditions. Once that litter is 6 months old they, along with the original sow, can breed again. SO you can see where they can over populate an area in no time. Sows have been known to have up to 3 litters in one year. Depending on when the first was born.

I have been told that their gestation period is 3months 3 weeks and 3days!  that is the get pregnant and carry them for 3.75 months and then there are more and so on.

They can take over an area, but a friend of mine found out recently how an out of work neighbor with a good number of traps can wreak havoc on the population!  This guy put a noticeable impact on them in one years time and no telling how many he pulled out before my buddy could figure out what was going on.  He stopped for gas up the road from his lease when he saw a pick-up pull off with 6 deceased ones in the bed.  The guy in the store said that the guy driving had been selling them up and down the road for a year and that it was his only income.
