Tikka Scope Rings
« on: March 10, 2003, 09:48:41 AM »
I just talked to the Tech man at Bretta.  He said for best results I should install the Optic-Lock bases and rings($100 +).  I told him I thould that sort of defeated the Tikka build in ring slot concept.  He said just the ring ($34) would not hold up.  What kind of scope set up are you guy's using?

I have Tikka rings, made by Millet.  They are holding up fine so far, although the rifle is a .22-250, so recoil isn't a factor.

I have Leopold rings on my Tikka.  Although it is a 243 and not much recoil.  Leopold rings are every bit as good as the Tikka/Sako rings. And you can get them for under 50.00

I went ahead and bought the Tikka rings by Millet.  I think their trash.  I trued them all up and hit the scope with the heel of my hand and they came loose.  $37.00 down the drain.  I may go ahead and get the Opti-Lock system, $100 and all.  First I'm going to look around a little.  Thanks for the input.

Havn't had a Tikka so not sure about the mounting system but if it will accomodate them I like Leupold or Burris.  Have had both on some extremely hard recoiling rifles and they held fine. If I had to choose one it would be the Burris self aliagning.

When I bought my Tikka the rings were included. I have have the 243 blu/syn w/blue rings. The only problem I have had is one of the screws that holds the clamp to the dovetail will back off slightly after a long day at the range. It is always the right rear screw. I may shoot 100-150 rnds. It has not affected "ZERO" that I have noticed. About a 1/8-1/4 turn is all I have to turn it back tight.

The ones that I have are #61 front and rear. I had to shorten one of the front screws.  If you have to do this take a little off at a time until the base tightens up with the shortened screw then add the second screw.
They come blued #61 or stainless #61S

I put the Warne Med rings on my Tikka .243.  Works great so far, only $39 bucks and I like the uncluttered looks Vs the factory recommended rings.

So? What is the verdict? I have a new Whitetail Hunter, stainless, lam. in 7mm RM that I've had near a month and not a shot yet. Still trying to figure out what rings to put on her. I got my new Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44 sitting there all purty and anxious to see how she shoots but no rings yet for me either. I have some Tikka rings on order (not the Optilock) as they mount right to the rails. I'll let you know how they look.

If you have some that mount on the rails (not interested in the Leupold) let me know too please.

I just purschased Burris bases for my Tikka whitetail along with the signature rings and inserts.  Went out and shot it last Monday to zero in my 270 and everything was great.  Zero it in with three shots at 200 yards.  It shot 1 5/8"  5 shot groups and no problem with the scope or bases.

I use 420511 1" Signature Ring matte black and 626019 inserts and 410266 Tikka 2-piece bases, matte black

Price:  Bases:  16.50
          Rings:   26.25
          Inserts:  9.75

Jon at Optic Zone can fix you up.

Thanks dbuck. I"m new here as you can tell but this site is great. Spend most of my time at www.huntingnet.com forums but just found this site while searching for some Tikka rings.

Man, this place is huge!!! Look for many more posts from me in the future. I've been poking around all day and seen several of your and others posts on the Tikka's. Hard to find much about them until I got here. I sure do love mine, that's for sure. I am telling everyone I know about them and how great they are. Great rifle for a great price.

Thanks for the info on the rings.

On my Tikka Whitetail Hunter Stainless Synthetic, I've got Weaver #61M (Matte) front and rear and Burris Z-Rings in matte also.

So far everything is working as should be.

I finally got my Silver Warne Maxima rings for my Tikka Stainless Synthetic.  These are HEAVY DUTY rings!!

They mount directly to the receiver and are super strong AND GOOD LOOKING!

I have a Nikon Monarch 3x-9x-40mm mounted on it and it was flawless.

It's www.warnescopemounts.com

BTW, the rings for the Tikkas are more sculptured and thus even better looking (Although I don't know if they have the Tikka rings in the pictures.)

Stainless Tikka T3 .243 using supplied rings and Zeiss Diavari-C 3x9x36----nice little rig. Not much recoil with the .243.

If I had one in any bigger caliber---I'd be using the Warne rings.

Millet rings are worthless.

OPTI-LOCK
« Reply #22 on: June 13, 2003, 11:15:14 AM »
I started this mess and will let you know what I ended up with.  I ordered the Opti-Lock directly from Bretta ($130+).  They mounted great and just fit a 3X9 Burris compact.  Haven't been out to shoot yet.  I've still got these $37 Tikka ring that I'll let go for $15.  I'll pay the postage.

I have a stainless laminated .270 with a Burris 3-9 scope, which is mounted with Tikka clamp on rings.  This rifle shoots anywhere from 6 to 8 inch groups at one hundred yards with various types of ammo.  I took the action out of the stock to see if something was awry, but everything was perfect.  The screws are tight and a bore sighter showed exact alignment.  The next time I go out to shoot I will shim the barrel and see if this has any affect on accuracy, and if this does not work I will switch out scopes and try again.  I have been shooting for over 30 years and have had a lot of experience with many makes of rifles.  This rifle is so well made that I can not believe it will not shoot.  I wonder if anyone has had problems with the Tikka clamp on rings.   :?

Scott,

Something is definately wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!  All tikkas must shoot 1" groups before they leave the factory.

Another thought is that perhaps something is wrong with the scope.  I can't believe that a tikka would shoot 2" groups, much less 6"+.

I am new to Tikkas, but I hear that A-bolt bases will work on the whitetail series.  Is this True?  Bought my first Tikka on Thursday & ordered another one today (Monday).  From what I am reading sounds like the warnes are the best.  I really would like to use bases & rings, If anything besides the opti-lock is available.

I never heard about A-Bolt bases fitting Tikkas.  I'm not saying it's right or wrong - just that I never heard of it.

As for rings, like I said - go with the Warnes, especially with a 7mag.  And don't worry about them not having bases.  The Warne rings attach to the receiver and are VERY STRONG.  In fact, there is a small round key at the end of the front ring that prevents the scope rings from moving - smart idea.

The only thing is this - I use the Warne Silver rings on my Tikkas because they are Stainless.  I know that Warne has their Maxima rings available in Matte black, but I don't know if they have it available in glossy black (cause you need them on the Deluxe).

I'm gonna call Warne tomorrow and find out - especially since I just bought the same gun and am similarly looking for gloss rings.

I called Warne today.  They DO make the Maxima rings in a black gloss finish.  They cost $39.99 + shipping.  I ordered a set for my Tikka Deluxe - they should look great!
