wild weekend
« on: February 10, 2008, 01:29:40 PM »
well it was wild to me. Better half has been out of town since wed. Yesterday i played golf at 7:30am (won $31,.00) went to the range at 12:30pm shot the Handis
17hmr,204,243,25-06 at the 50 yard range sighting in. 68deg. here yesterday.
Today did the same thing only won ($6.50) today. Went to range this pm with 17hmr and 204. finaly got he 17 shooting 5shot groups in about 11/2" at a 100yards that is very good for me,
it has a BSA 22 special 4x32 scope wich i am not crazy about but i am not going to change it right now.
Next the 204, two guys ask me why i would put a 4x12 scope on one of THOSE guns (handi)they had big time guns with scopes long as the barrels. Just before i shot i thought now Rex
don't embarase your self or the handi i fired 3 they fired three each, we walked down MY 3 were touching in the bulls eye, they could not believe it, said they didn't know one of THOSE
guns could shoot like that. I told them it was off, cause i meant to be about 1-2" high at a 100yrds, all the time about to jump out of my skin, needless to say the 204 is ready.
I would like to thank Tim for turning me on to the 4x12 97D great scope, think i will need at least one more.
People at the range really surprise me out of 20 people shooting at the same time on the 100, i think i was the only one keeping brass, they come in with new ammo fed, win, rem in every
cal. their is and don't keep the brass every tihing from 204 to 45-70 laying every where.

Nice shooting!

I decided recently to clean up after those good folks who don't pick up after themselves at the range...someone I know could use them or they might be useful in a trade down the road.
Heck maybe I will even start reloading if I could find the time!

Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend, with kicking the goody-two-shoe boy's butts with the 204 being icing on the cake, congrats!! ;D ;D ;D Glad ya like the Mueller/Eabco 97D scope, from all reports so far, it's not a disappointment for anyone, just as the APV it's based on is an excellent scope, a lot for the money, that's for sure. I'd be willing to bet those boys probably would be surprised at what you paid for it compared to the quality, too.  :o ;D It's too bad the intro price of $139 is gone tho.

thx for sharing,

Tim

$159, still not a bad price, but it's $44 more than an APV instead of $24.

I really enjoyed your little story at the range. It is fun to open some eyes and out shoot the expensive stuff. I have an APV mounted on a 22 Hornet. I have not had a chance to wring it out yet, but seems to be a very good scope for the money $115 + free sunshade+free shipping. I wish Mueller would make a straight 10X tactical for a reasonable price.

Yea
I found that i could not shoot the 17hmr fast enough to heat the barrel, the 25-05 and the 243 were another story, i really like the 204 bbl, 4-12 97d, I paid $139.00 for it with sun shade and free shipping, made by Mueller. I am satisfied they have my bus. right now i can not think of a scope i would trade it for ( i know what it will do)
i do have a big problem with all my Handis, that hammer extinsion is just to rough, Sunday
nite my thumb was sore (took a few minutes to figure out why) 20 rounds each 243,25-06
204 and 100 rounds 17hmr. I Guess i will have to order some high dollar shooting gloves.
 :o 8) ::) ;D

The trick I use for the same problem is heat-shrink tubing. If you size it right, you will still feel some of the knurl, but not the sharp points.

that sounds like a plan, probably not shoot that much on one weekend very often but
still wouldn't hurt to have it on the spur.
thanks REX
