I got a Browning!!
« on: January 29, 2008, 05:27:59 PM »
Well.  I went to the local shop to purchase a sexy Mark III Hunter.  They had sold it Saturday.  They had a Mark III target Slabslide, wanted to get it....it was on lay-away : /

So I started looking around.  I tried on a lot of guns.  Two of my favorites were the Beretta Neo, and the Browning Buckmark.  The Buckmark just felt so good.  So I had to bring it home.

I went out and put 50 rounds through it.  Really enjoyed it.  I have to say I like the look and feel of it a lot more than the Ruger.  It was also a lot cheaper.  I haven't had a chance to get a pic of it, but this is as close as I could get.  The difference is the grips on my gun are Rosewood. They're engraved with the Browning symbol.  Really an amazing gun.  My only grip is with the sites.  I am going to give them a chance, but more than likely going to look for some fiber optic sites for lower lighting type stuff.

Ended up bringing it home for 320 dollars.  Next week, if it's still there..that Beretta is coming home with me too, lol.  It just felt soooo nice.

PS:  Where is the cheapest place to order some extra clips?  Any mods you'd recommend?

I shot at least 10000 rounds through mine in Bullseye competition with out a problem, accurate and reliable.

I have a Buckmark from the first year of production.  Last count was a little over 20K rounds.  In target, hunting and plinking.  The only change was loosing the original rear sight and adding a MK2 rear sight and then added a red dot.
I have two other Buckmarks and they too are great.
Congratulations.  You will be happy.
Looks great.

I have one and so does my son.  His went back to the Browning  a few weeks after he bought it because the barrel leaded up rapidly (75 rounds or so) for a new barrel, and now it is as trouble free as mine.  Both are accurate and reliable, have great triggers from the factory, and have earned a place in our safes.  My sons came with great fiberoptic sights and I put a red dot on mine.

Congratulations!  I know what you mean about feel in the hand re Ruger vs the Buck mark... that is what initially sold me, too.  My 14-year old daughter has "unofficially" taken ownership of 'our' Buck Mark Micro URX and put over 500 rounds through it in two range sessions.  Great pistol, and no problems at... easy to field strip and easy to clean.  I'm thinking we'll have to get a second Buck' so I have a .22 pistol to shoot!

We bought extra clips from R & R Arms, in Bemidji MN.  Here's a link direct to the magazine.

I'm surprised a bit that the Buck Mark was less expensive than the Ruger... at the two shops that I frequent in my area (NE Illinois), the Brownings run higher than the Ruger Marks, by about $30 in comparable models.

good shooting with your new gun! I am surprised the price was better than the Rugers, here In Ohio the Buckmarks were much higher than Rugers when I bought my Mark II last year.  I bought it used at $275 but its in great shape.

Past two days I've shot quite a bit.  Got to where I absolutely love this gun.  I just can't stand the sights.  Should I go for just a front fiberoptic post or replace the front and back sights both with fiberoptic?  When I can see the sights I can shoot it very well, but otherwise It's just a mess.

Me and a good friend went out onto some of his land out in the country and had a blast.  Got some golf tee's and placed them out at about 10 yards and shot them with open sights.  I did really well while the sun was at my back(illuminated the sights), I got 3 in a row several times.  It was cheating if you hit them too low, so we had to split them in half for it to count.  Damn good fun.  I also got some cheap little army men from Wal-Mart.  We'd toss them out in front and shoot 'em.  They'd flip up and fly way back.  Biggest string I got was about 8 shots.  By that time there wasn't much left : /

What's your advice on open sights?  The Fire Sights are really nice, but at 60$ : /  If it's worth it, it's worth it.  But I'd just like to get some more opinions.

If you shoot best with illuminated sights then go get one of the LED ball cap lights and clip it to the bill of your hat and now every handgun you shoot has illuminated sights.  I have seen them as low as $15.00.  Also real handy when working on things in front of you.  There are a few models that have four light colors for different uses.
Good shooting.

Right on!
A buckmark is next on my list....I already have an MKII and picked up a neos last month.
I think the Buckmarks should be a top choice for anyone looking at rimfire autos.

If you're still contemplating the Neos, DO IT! I got the 6" Inox and absolutely love it. Paid $260 OTD. I already put a 4.5" Inox barrel and 3 more magazines ($10 each at CDNN) on order. Mine has done a few 1" groups @ 25yds rested, iron sights, and cheap Federal 510's. Very ergonomic and will literally eat ANYTHING. Mine it's picky on ammo at all...100% feed and extraction with 10 brands of standard and high velocity I've tried so far.
