Definatly not the 9MM and the .40 was developed to over come the the short comings of the 10MM (heavy recoil) so, at least in my opinion, I'd pick a .45 ACP?

Most special forces and anybody else in the military that can get their hands on one has gone back to the 45 acp. Bigger is better! I own 1 9mm, a Browning Hi-Power (it's a classic). I have never owned a 40 cal. (I've shot a lot of em)  and probably never will. The ol 45 acp has been around forever and there's a reason for it. IT WORKS!!! I'm a die-hard 1911 guy and own several, but I bought a Springfield 45 XD a while back, and I'm here to tell you, 14 rounds of 45 acp is hard to beat. ;)

John R., my only problem with the double stack magazines is they feel like a banana in my hand (Too wide). I prefer single stack guns and in .45ACP.

I agree that most of them do, but the XD feels a lot like a Hi-Power. They did a good job on the shape of the grip.
