Ontario Bear Hunting and Fishing
« on: March 20, 2007, 11:11:25 AM »
Hey Everyone,

I'll be going bear hunting and fishing in Ontario for the first time in my life and I need to know what's the easiest way to get my fishing & hunting licenses, gun papers for the border crossing, and anything else.

There'll be a couple of us in the truck and it'd be nice to have all of that out of the way before we got to the lodge.

      Thanks for the help!!

I may be mistaken about this, but its my understanding that non residents are now required to hunt bear through an outfitter.  If this is the case, and if you've booked with an outfitter, I believe that you can get your licences from them.

The gun situation is more problematic.  We have silly gun laws up here that require you to pay for a temporary registration of your firearms.   Most outfitters can facilitate this process as well, but you can contact the Canadian firearms centre for info on this.  I have a web address, but I'm not certain it's appropriate.  www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca  .

Good luck!

I would recommend where I went last year, Auld Reekie Lodge.  I haven't actually been anywhere else in ontario so I can't give any other recommendations.

you'll need to down load a form for the gun registration it's very simple form, you'll need area you are hunting in, gun model and serial no., barrel length, mag capacity. guide will have a management unit paper to fill out, then get the permit. trophy export fee when leaving province. don't forget a passport. I called the border people about 1 month and again a couple days before we left. Lady on phone was very helpful and quite pleasant as well. I can recommend Ivon and sons, they are out of Chelmsford, On. They run a simple operation mostly just have baits ready when you show up and you take over from there. yahoo search will explain much better.
