223 loads

Just got a hold of a nearly new 24"contender barrel in 223.  Was wondering is there is a general favorite brand or weight bullet for this barrel?     I'll be shooting prairie dogs.

As for brand, I don't know as I reload.

I have two barrels and get good groups with 50 to 60 grain weights and mostly shoot 55 grain soft points or 50 grain hornady V-max.

Sierra Hollow Point Match King bullets is my pick and they will destroy ground hogs. I think they are around 52 or 53 grains if I remember correctly. I use IMR4198 powder and shoot .25" groups with my Win. M70 laminated light weight barrel. It just loves these bullets.

I buy the Remington /UMC 45 grain JHP in the 200 round value pack for my TC and for the Rem. 700 SPS.
If your looking to reload.  it just takes time to work up an accurate load.

I just started using 40gr V-Max's with a near max load of H-335. Great combo and it vaporizes p-dogs.
