My best loads are with IMR 3031,IMR 4064, and ww748. Did try 4350 with 165gr hornady and while it was slower top load shot well. As for bullets can't do much better than 150 and 165gr hornady and mine also really likes the 150gr partition.

I have had great accuracy results using Winchester brass, CCI #34 primers, middle range amounts of Reloader 15, 43 grains, 150 grain Corelokt bullets, 150 grain Bronze Point bullets and 150 grain Partitions bullets. I have taken White tail deer with all of these rounds with the greatest of ease. Good luck with the original short magnum.

Try 150gr Sierra or Hornaday bullets with IMR 4895 powder.  The reloading books have some good loads.  Now the fun part is working up different loads and see which one your rifle likes.

In my old age I have become truly lazy.  :o OK truth be told I really ALWAYS was lazy.  ;D

Like you I really should be figuring out a load for the .308 Win. as I now finally do own my first one after ignoring it for so many years in favor of the .30-06. But I picked up two boxes of Remington 150 factory loads and the darn things shot about an inch at 100 yards and being the lazy sort I am it's doubtful I'll bother loading for it.

I've messed around with the 7-08 for about 25 years and have yet to find a load that will match the performance both accuracy wise and velocity wise to the Hornady Light Magnum and Remington factory loads for it. I've worked with about a half dozen different guns maybe a few more so chambered and never yet matched much less beat those two with my reloads.

The 308 I have now shoots best with Reloader 15.  Bullets from Hornady, Sierra and Nosler ranging 150-165gns.  All shoot very well under MOA.

Ya know, I had the same problem with my 7/08 M-7!  Years ago I bought several boxes of Rem. 140 gr. CoreLocs at a gun show and they shot so good I wasn't ever tempted to hand load for it!  Since then though, that little 18.5 in barreled beauty has become my only synthetic stocked sporting weapon and I always bring it along as my back-up rifle... stoked with (no longer made) 162 gr. Nosler solid base bullets! ;D

Now I only got one .308 sportin gun, a Savage M-99A, and I ain't never been able to get that bad boy to shoot.  'course, I ain't tried in 15 or 20 years, but I'll get back around to it one day.  I do have around a half dozen military rifles in that calber though, and started shooting the 7.62 around '62.  Good round, easy to load for.  All you got to do is see what your rifle-gun likes!

Don't judge your accuracy until you get some good bullets. I've tried the FMJ bullets and none of my 308s have liked them. I triwed them in my 300Wm and it threw them all over the place.
